Real Neat Blog Award

Some time ago now Lavender and Levity nominated me for the Real Neat Blog award, and I am just getting around to it. (And of course, since Halloween was yesterday and it’s such a fun holiday, I had to do something with that, hence the creepy logos!)

Let me just start by saying thanks; I am so grateful to have been nominated for this blogging award! It’s always gratifying to know your blog is being read and that somebody enjoys it enough to nominate it for an award, thus encouraging others to check it out as well. I also enjoy how these awards make for a great way for us to get to know each other more informally. So here goes!

Real Neat Blog Award_2

The ‘rules’ of the Real Neat Blog award are: (feel free not to act upon them if you don’t have time; don’t accept awards; etc.)

  1. Put the award logo on your blog.
  2. Answer 7 questions asked by the person who nominated you.
  3. Thank the people who nominated you, linking to their blogs.
  4. Nominate any number of bloggers you like, linking to their blogs.
  5. Let them know you nominated them (e.g.: comment on their blog; linking their blog notifies them too I believe)

Here are the answers to my 7 questions:

  1. What natural disaster best represents you?

In public: Snowstorm. I can be very cold and freeze people out if they aggravate me, or if I feel they are a negative impact on me.

In private: Volcano. I can sometimes erupt and spew lava with some ferocity, typically after small aggravations have been brewing underneath and building for a long time.

  1.  If you had to pick one of the two, would you rather be too hot or too cold?

Too cold. (I am not fond of the heat at all!)

  1.  If you won a trip anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Hmm, maybe to some of the Caribbean islands! I visited the Virgin Islands a few months ago and fell in love with the ocean in that part of the world.

  1.  If you could only have one of the following in your dream home, which would you choose: a housekeeper, a personal chef, a personal assistant or a landscaper/gardener?

Housekeeper. No contest there! My husband is a great cook, and I can be my own PA. I can even do some gardening if needed. But cleaning? Ugh! That’s anathema to me!

  1.  What’s your favorite drink?

There’s too many and they are too varied to list just one.

Non-alcoholic: Other than tea (including herbal) and coffee, I am currently loving coconut water, kombucha (cultured tea with probiotics), and tamarind soda.

Alcoholic: I love most cocktails (White Russian & Sangria are definite faves); Hoegaarden is a particular favorite in beer; as for wine, I am reasonably fond of slightly dry, not too heavy-bodied red wines, but Auslese Rieslings are probably my favorite (somewhat sweet, fruity, white wines that are a delight just by themselves or with fruits).

  1.  You should have been in bed an hour ago, but you are still on the Internet. What non-blog webpage is open on your browser?

Netflix; though technically, it’s open on my TV through our Nintendo Wii. If I’m on the computer, probably YouTube.

  1.  Why do you think you were nominated? (Hint: it was because I felt there were good things about your blog, so positive answers only! I want you to humble brag!)

I had to ask my husband to help me with this one, and he said I have a way of digging deep and sayings things which are difficult to put in words; that my posts are very honest, well-thought-out pieces about living (not just surviving) with a chronic illness. Ideally, I would also hope to fill a niche with my blog about scientists with fibromyalgia/CFS/similar invisible illnesses. There’s not very many of us, that I know about, who openly talk or write about going through graduate school in the biomedical research field (which is very competitive and infamous for long work hours, and hence not friendly at all to tired old slow-pokes like us). It is my hope that my blog is a window where people can read about the experiences of one scientist with fibromyalgia, and hopefully help others in similar situations as myself.

My nominees/Blogs I’d love for you to check out:

I know a lot of people don’t participate in these awards, so don’t worry about it if that’s the case. If you do, I would love to see your responses to the questions below and get to know you more in a fun way!

  1. Crafts, Chronic Illness and Adulting
  2. Fibroloveaffair
  3. Invisibly Me
  4. Ginger Fancy Photography & Reflections
  5. Mabel Kwong

My questions:

Lavender & Levity did a great job of coming up with awesome questions, so I’ll reuse most of them and add a couple of my own!

1. What natural disaster best represents you?

2.  If you could swap lives with someone for a day (living or deceased), who would you swap with and why?

3.  If you won a trip anywhere in the world, where would you go?

4.  If you could only have one of the following in your dream home, which would you choose: a housekeeper, a personal chef, a personal assistant or a landscaper/gardener?

5.  What’s the one thing that annoys the crap out of you?

6.  You should have been in bed an hour ago, but you are still on the Internet. What non-blog webpage is open on your browser?

7.  Why do you think you were nominated? (Hint: it was because I felt there were good things about your blog, so positive answers only! I want you to humble brag!)

thats all folks_1

I hope you enjoyed getting to know me a bit more through these answers! And I look forward to the responses of my nominees, if they choose to participate. Thanks again to Lavender and Levity for her nomination.

  1. Thank you again for the nomination! I really appreciate the thought and your kind words! It’s always enriching to read answers to others questions that are none blog related. Kind of a person-behind-the-scenes if you will.😊

I enjoyed sweet white wine for a bit too. It’s so yummy!

Hoping your day was best as can be🌸 and that you had a great Halloween!

    1. I agree, I really enjoy reading non-blog related Q&A as well to get a feel for the blogger behind-the-scenes. And I certainly enjoying sharing such bits of info as well so people can know “me” behind Fibronacci. 🙂 Your nomination is very well deserved. I look forward to your answers whenever you can get to them!

Halloween was fun! we visited a haunted house in town that’s consistently been rated one of the best in the country. My husband and I kind of made visiting there a tradition every year. 😃 Hope your Halloween was fun too and you’re having a wonderful day!

  2. I’d only more recently even heard of kombucha but I’m yet to try it yet, I’ll have to add it to my list of things to do! Huge congrats on the very well-deserved award, and thank you so much for the kind nomination!  ♥

    1. Thank you Caz! Your nomination is equally well deserved, and if you choose to accept it, I would love to see your responses. 🙂 As for Kombucha, it’s been great! I started drinking that and tibicos/water kefir and kefir shakes for fun because my husband was enjoying playing around making probiotic drinks at home. But then I realized it’s actually been really good for my digestive health and helps my IBS-like bowel problems. Now that they are getting more popular, stores sell them bottled in many flavors. It can be a bit of an acquired taste sometimes. But I’d say pick a flavor you like and just give it a shot! 🙂 Cheers!

  3. Thank you so much for the nomination! It really is very kind of you to think of me, though my blog and writing is very different from yours. Your responses were very interesting – you have a Wii, and I’m guessing sometimes you are a gamer when you are not watching Netflix 😀

Snowstorm would best represent my personality too. I’m quiet and come off as quite rude because I don’t like talking much so that’s understood. Would not want to swap lives because I am very much content with mine. If I won a trip to anyplace I could go, I would go to somewhere warm – ideally 30’C or some place that is having a warm summer. I’d definitely want a landscaper or gardener so they can tend to the outside of my place and I don’t ever have to go out! YouTube would be my non-blog web page that I’m constantly or Instagram.

Lol, I was nominated because of you and your kindness 😀

    1. Thank you so much for participating Mabel!! I know all about coming off as rude because of a resting bitch face that I don’t bother to “unbitch” unless I really want to. Haha!! As for living in a 30C place, ummm . . . it’s not all that great as it might sound (or feel on a short trip from a cold country). But hey, if you’re a warm weather girl, this might be the place. I am quite the opposite in that respect – I would love to be where it snows! At least for some of the time! 🙂

I actually wish I played more video games than I do unfortunately. There was a time when I really got into it and did a lot of it. But I never quite got the hang of most modern 3D games – expect Zelda Twilight Princess, which is one of my all time favorites! – I find them somewhat disorientating for whatever reason. Also, I just don’t often have enough time or energy to be actively playing . . . sounds rather sad, doesn’t it? It’s kind of the same story with my husband too, who is arguably more into video games than me. Hopefully one day we can both pick our gaming habits back up again. 🙂

      1. Haha, I too don’t bother to unbitch. I think my face is what it is when I am trying to control myself in a high-anxiety situation – or for you, perhaps dealing with your chronic illness. You’ve got more to worry about (how you feel) compared to how you look 🙂

Lol. At one point I too did a lot of video games but I don’t think I was any good at all 😀 Never got up to Zelda Twilight Princess but it does sound like a very good modern one. Usually first person shooter games like Kid Icarus give me very bad headaches so I avoid them. Always happy to do Mario Kart any day 😀

        1. Yes, I totally agree! I have social anxiety as well, so I fully understand how you feel! We have more pressing internal matters calling our attention than our external appearances. You seem like an adorably friendly, kind, and thoughtful person though. So I am sure the friends who took the time to get to know you find you a real asset! 🙂

Haha, I never was any good at first-person shooter games (can’t aim very well, LOL!), but I do enjoy role-playing games. A real fan of the “old” games too! Startropics is a particular fave. 😀

          1. It is very kind of you to say. I do think a lot of people find me very odd (maybe even annoying), even those close to me 😀

Role-playing games are amazing. Never played Startropics, but so many gamse from the old school NES era are amazing 🙂
